RALEIGH – The extra-long 2015 legislative session has claimed another statesman. Two-term Rep. Rick Catlin (R-Wilmington) announced via email today that he will not run for re-election in 2016.
Catlin wrote in the email that he would remain in the General Assembly through the end of the 2016 session, which is scheduled to end in the late spring. The legislature will reconvene in late April for the “short session,” the second year of the state budget biennium.
A business owner and engineer, Catlin said that he needed to sped more time with his work in Wilmington. Catlin’s business, CATLIN Engineers and Scientists lost its CEO Jeff Becken when he died unexpectedly last year.
Catlin write that after losing his “dear friend” Becken, it was necessary for him to work more “out of respect for my professional employees and their families.” Catlin praised his employees for picking up the slack while he was in Raleigh and called it “an honor” to serve in the General Assembly.
