RALEIGH – The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources has launched a new blog to discuss environmental issues at the national and state level.  According to the blog’s first post, Environmentally Speaking will publish updates from the department on important topics such as offshore energy, coal ash, and other important environmental issue.

The site’s first topical post was an in-depth discussion of DENR Secretary Don van der Vaart’s response to the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s final plan to regulate coal-based energy production.  Van der Vaart had previously stated that the Obama administration’s plan had “legal flaws” and did not consider the unique nature of each state’s energy generating system.

The blog post goes into a long-form discussion of the legal arguments against the statutory foundation used by EPA to justify the president’s coal plan. The post made it clear that the “administration plans to challenge the final rule in court.”
